 … under the new Construction Products Regulation, the declaration of performance and conformity must include the product's sustainability performance throughout its life cycle?


The declaration of performance and conformity must now include the product's environmental sustainability performance throughout its life cycle with regard to the predetermined essential environmental characteristics for the declared features. Performance must include the packaging used or most likely to be used and must be calculated using the latest version of the software made freely available on the Commission's website.

From 8 January 2026, for products covered by a harmonised technical specification published in an Official Journal of the European Union under the new regulation, the declaration of performance and conformity must cover, at least, the product's performance throughout its life cycle with regard to the following essential characteristics:


a) Effects of climate change — total;
b) Effects of climate change — fossil fuels;
c) Effects of climate change — biogenic;
d) Effects of climate change — land use and changes in land use.

From January 9, 2030, in addition to performance related to the essential characteristics listed above, the declaration of performance and conformity must cover at least the product's performance throughout its life cycle with respect to the following essential characteristics:

e) Ozone layer depletion;

f) Acidification potential;

g) Freshwater eutrophication;

h) Marine water eutrophication;

i) Terrestrial eutrophication;

j) Photochemical ozone;

k) Abiotic depletion — minerals, metals;

l) Abiotic depletion — fossil fuels;

m) Water use.

In turn, from January 9, 2032, the declaration of performance must additionally present the product's performance throughout its life cycle with respect to the following essential characteristics:

n) Suspended particles;

o) Ionizing radiation — human health;

p) Ecotoxicity — freshwater;

q) Human toxicity — carcinogenic;

r) Human toxicity — non-carcinogenic;

s) Impacts related to land use.
